Baker Wake Up Shake

This is an easy way to get your spinach greens out of the way for the day.
I'm sorry that I don't measure anymore so I don't know the exact meaurements.

Morning Shake
1 banana
like a 1/2 cup of plain yogurt
a couple spoonfuls of ground flaxseed
about 3/4-1 cup of berries
3/4 cup of milk/water--add more if smoothie is too thick
a handful of spinach leaves

A couple of times I have also added oats and cinnamon to it. I don't know if Mark liked it very much when I did that though. ;)

When Mark makes one he substitutes the milk and does vanilla flavored protein powder and water instead. He also adds carrots.

If you want a recipe for a smoothie with measurements, this is off the same blog that I got the refried beans and tortillas. It's called http://www.100daysofrealfood.com She has got a lot of helpful things on her website.

Tasty Smoothies

  • 1.5 cups plain organic yogurt
  • 1 cup berries, fresh or frozen (or we have tried 2 oranges, peeled)
  • 2 bananas (or 1 – 2 tablespoons of honey if you don’t like bananas)
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ – ¾ cup fresh spinach leaves (I also tried adding some leftover broccoli instead of the spinach. My husband said I took things a little too far, but the kids still sucked it down!)
  • Optional: if using fresh berries (instead of frozen) add some ice cubes
Combine all ingredients into blender and blend. Pour into cups and garnish with fruit or use fun straws to entice your kids!

  1. What's the difference between plain organic yogurt and greek yogurt? which one do you like better? and where do you find flavored greek yogurt that is not too expensive costco?

  2. I think the difference is that greek yogurt has a ton of protein in it and normal yogurt doesn't have as much. I don't buy flavored or organic greek yogurt because of the price but I would love to find organic greek yogurt at a good price. I buy the kirkland brand of greek yogurt at costco because it isn't as expensive. I don't worry about flavored greek yogurt because I only really eat it in smoothies.
